He’d been running down the hours With a razor for a smile Spirit lingers in his body As he chain-smokes in the ground Rivals reeling It has to be a lie. We saw believers cry Fearful while they sleep He passed before our eyes Left his mark on every city His disciples in his hands Placing ashtrays on the telly Turning dials the wrong way round Children cartwheel It has to be a lie. We saw believers cry Grown men bathe his feet He rose before our eyes

Your chocolate is fair trade Your cocaine is slave trade Your new boots are hand made Your handmaid goes unpaid You are a stupid guy You are a foolish man Children made your rugs Children sell your drugs Now they’re giving back rubs Mani-pedi, face scrubs You are a stupid guy You are a foolish man I had a dream last night You were attacked by flies They laid their eggs inside When they all hatched you died

about

Zestworld Retreat is Hatch's second compilation - a follow up to 2020’s Echo From Below: New Music From Hatch Vol. 1. After (mostly) emerging from the pandemic, it was clear that new and exciting projects and bands had started to appear - this compilation aims to draw together these projects alongside new music from Hatch members and some familiar names.

For the uninitiated Hatch is a collective based at 107a Harwood Street, Sheffield. This grass-roots independent group revolves around DIY music and other creative fun. Founded by the inhabitants of Audacious Space (the physical home of now closed label The Audacious Art Experiment), Hatch was hatched in February 2019. The space itself operates as a practice space, workshop and live music venue - hosting regular gigs.

Zestworld Retreat is an eclectic reflection of the space's denizens and close creative circle - from Georgian alt-pop, through technicolour drill and bass, to ambient and of course plenty of doses of wonky guitar music and punk.

To name a few highlights: taut and sparse post punk on ‘Toast’ by Good News, kraut-inspired guitar dirge from Dearthworms, Interworld Media’s Phoneutrian bringing creepy lurching electronica, brain fizzing hyperactive drums and electronics from Earthworm Jerky (Yo Dynamo’s Tom Walker), Ye Woodbeast and Unholy Shrines tap into Scarfolk vibes and a country in decline on ‘Green Unpleasant Land’ and ‘Rival’s Reeling’, beautiful ambience from Mauvais Sang (Thomas Sprackland), catchy guitar pop from Bean Weevil and Bedlamb, a stunning collaboration between composer Julia Schauerman & artist Stephen Carley (The London Group), fast and furious punk from Great Shame, Radiation Spots and Mouthparts. The list goes on - other contributors include The Apples of Pain, The Limp (new band from members of Naisian and Bhurgeist), and many many more.
